Beyzanur Ozdemir, AMFT (she/her)
My name is Beyza, my pronouns are she/her, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist/Associate Professional Clinical Counselor with Diaspora Therapy Group. I emigrated from Türkiye when I was three years old and identify as neurodivergent, Muslim, an immigrant, and a woman. My various intersectional identities and lived experiences have influenced my passions and work. I am passionate about working with diverse communities and mental health care accessibility. My work is LGBTQ+ affirming, and I enjoy working with BIPOC, queer, and other historically underrepresented folks belonging to Muslim and other spiritual and faith-based communities.
As a therapist, I work from a person-centered and strength-based framework. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and client. You are an expert on your own life, and my job is to accompany you through your healing journey. I am also influenced by multicultural counseling, relational cultural therapy, feminist approaches, and trauma-informed practices. I incorporate mindfulness and somatic practices as appropriate. I value intersectionality and provide a safe space for discussions surrounding identity and systemic impacts on the individual.
I also work with children and teens and utilize approaches from client-centered play therapy and art therapy. I have experience and work with a variety of topics such as depression, anxiety, grief, neurodiversity, school-related conflicts, family and relationships, and life transitions. I look forward to starting the work together.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy traveling, reading, binging TV shows, going to the beach, trying new food, lifting weights, and practicing yoga.
